Frequently Asked Questions

All you need to know about FYP

FAQ

1. Who should attend FYP?
Youth and young adults who 1) have questions about faith and life, 2) are wondering about God’s call for their lives, and 3) have an extended amount of time from January to March should attend FYP. These include those on a gap year, those waiting for Uni or NS to start or those looking for work or in between jobs.
2. Is FYP only for CAC members?
Participants from other churches and denominations are welcome. For further enquiries, please email cacboymfyp@gmail.com
3. Is FYP free of charge?

ALL participants need to pay a discounted course fee of $500.

If you are a member of any of the Chinese Annual Conference (CAC) churches, you may approach your Youth Ministry Coordinator for more information on the course fees if needed. Your full commitment to the programme is thus required. Participants from non-CAC churches and other denominations will need to pay a discounted fee of $800 for the 3-month programme.5

5. How is FYP different from other discipleship programs out there?
Unlike programmes that train and equip young people for full-time ministry or leadership in church, FYP equips young people for life inside and outside the church in God’s kingdom. Our focus is on those who are called to the marketplace and who want to know how their faith matters to every aspect of their lives.
6. The topics covered look very deep. Is FYP only for intellectuals?
No. While the intellectual component is somewhat heavy (there are lectures to sit through and readings that participants are required to do), the emphasis of the programme is one of learning in community. Mentors and facilitators are on hand to help break down understanding, and there is ample time for group discussions that will help process what has been learnt. The spiritual formation and community life aspects of the programme also ensure that participants grow holistically and not just in head-knowledge.
7. It is stated that churches are strongly encouraged to give an allowance to participating members. What is the allowance for?
The suggested allowance helps to cover the transportation cost, meals, additional materials, outings and other events that the participants will need to attend during the course. Potential participants should discuss any specific needs (over and above the recommended allowance) with their respective churches.
8. I can only make it in February. Can I join FYP later in the programme?
We strongly encourage participants to be present from the start of the programme as the curriculum is sequential and each week’s content builds upon the previous ones.
9. Can I work part time, after FYP hours?
We do not encourage FYP participants to work part time as this will most likely detract from their overall experience since they will be unable to join the activities and fellowship that are often organised after class. Participants will also need the extra time to complete their readings so that class discussions are fruitful. Should participants need to work for any reason (e.g. to ease the financial burden on the family), they should approach their church leaders or any member of the FYP committee.
10. Can I take a short break to travel during FYP?
Unless the participant has to visit his/her family members in our neighbouring countries, we strongly discourage FYP participants to do so as it may affect the overall learning experience – both for themselves, as well as the other participants.
11. How will Covid-19 affect FYP? Will it be conducted online?

We will, in accordance with all prevailing public health safety guidelines, be conducting FYP on-site and face-to-face.

If the national guidelines curtail our ability to meet face to face, we will conduct FYP online, as a contingency. Further details will be communicated nearer the start of the program.
